About the Project
Origin is an app designed for adopted people of color to aid them in the process of maintaining a connection with their cultural roots.
Unfortunately, adopted BIPOC can express the most identity issues such as a fractured identity, racial confusion, and internal bias. Racial isolation is common among many transracial adoptees with white parents. The feeling of not fitting in in their own home or social-setting is both confusing and terrifying, and this is a reality for so many in the US.
My goals with this project were to provide guidance for anyone feeling lost or confused about their feelings, help adoptees learn about their birth culture, and create a safe space for adoptees to connect. The interface uses friendly elements in its illustration, design approach, and language to be as welcoming as possible.
